2024 Annual Picnic - A huge success

With a wide range of activities for people of all ages, the annual joint picnic of Tagore Society of Houston and the Houston Durga Bari Society was held on March 31, 2024, with overflowing attendance. This year's Picnic also included the celebration of Holi. There was something for everyone to enjoy, including the energetic Lads vs. Dad soccer game, exciting sit and draw competitions, and entertaining antakshari sessions. Bringing families together to celebrate the coming of spring with vivid Holi colors, the event promoted a sense of communal spirit. Delectable appetizers and a sumptuous lunch enhanced the celebrations, fostering treasured memories and moments for everyone in attendance.

1st Anniversary of Tagore Memorial Houston

The inauguration of a permanent Tagore Memorial on February 25, 2023, at the Ray Miller Park, was a milestone event in the long History of Tagore Society of Houston. Pictures of the inauguration can be seen below. Exactly a year later on February 25, 2024, a memorable event was held to mark its 1st anniversary. The event was attended by the Consul General of India, and other local dignitaries, and comprised of short speeches by the dignitaries, a curated selection of Tagore songs sung by the Tagore Society choir, and presentations on the relevance of Tagore's philosophy. It was an event reminiscent of open air events in Santiniketan.

General Body Meeting & Pous Parbon

The annual GBM (2023) was held on Jan 27, 2024 at the HDBS Sur Auditorium. The welcome and update by the former President, Mr. Gopendu Chakrabarti, was followed by the introduction of the new Executive Board & the newly created Executive Coordinator positions. The former Treasurer, Mr. Dhruba Ghose presented the financial highlights of 2023. Two new Board of Directors members, Mr. Gopendu Chakrabarti & Mr Kajal Roy were introduced. The calendar of events for the rest of the year was presented and was followed by a Tagore Talk on "Tagore's Global Vision in the light of the Bahai Teachings" by Mr. Arindam Ghosh.

Following the meeting, a brilliant Open Mic session of music, song and elocution by some the newer artists and kids.

The event concluded with the popular Pous Parbon celebration, a festival of authentic Bengali food prepared by volunteer food connoisseurs.

Tagore Society Participates in the 2023 Compassionate Houston Event

As a partner organization of Compassionate Houston, Tagore Society of Houston held an event on Nov 19, 2023, titled "A Sunday Afternoon with Tagore", at the Tagore Memorial Grove. After welcoming the attendees, the gathering was treated to renderings of famous Tagore poems and an interactive session related to of Compassionate Houston and Tagore's universal philosophy.
