About the Event

Rabindra Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore — Nobel laureate, poet, philosopher, and composer. Each year, Tagore Society Houston brings together artists, students, and community members to honour his enduring legacy through performance and reflection.

What to Expect

The evening features:

  • Rabindra Sangeet — classical songs composed by Tagore, performed by invited artists
  • Dance performances — Tagore’s choreographic tradition brought to life
  • Poetry recitations — in Bengali and English, for all to enjoy
  • Cultural presentations — short talks on Tagore’s philosophy and contemporary relevance

Who Should Come

This event is free and open to all members of the Houston community — no prior knowledge of Bengali culture is required. We warmly welcome families, students, and anyone curious about Tagore’s universal message.

About Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) was a Bengali polymath — poet, novelist, composer, philosopher, and visual artist. He became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, for his collection Gitanjali. His song Jana Gana Mana is India’s national anthem; Amar Shonar Bangla is Bangladesh’s.

“Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high…” — Rabindranath Tagore, Gitanjali
