About Barnali

Barnali (বর্ণালী) — meaning “colourful” in Bengali — is the Tagore Society of Houston’s flagship annual festival. Now in its decades-long tradition, Barnali brings together artists from Houston, across the United States, and from South Asia for two evenings of world-class cultural performances.

Programme

Day One — Friday, July 25

  • Opening ceremony and lamp lighting
  • Classical Rabindra Sangeet performances
  • Odissi and Bharatanatyam dance presentations
  • Special guest artists from Kolkata

Day Two — Saturday, July 26

  • Children’s cultural showcase
  • Full drama or musical production
  • Audience participation segment
  • Grand finale and cultural banquet

Past Barnali Highlights

Barnali has featured performers from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kolkata’s Tagore birth house at Jorasanko, as well as prominent Houston-based Bengali artists. Each year, the programme is freshly curated to balance classical tradition with contemporary expression.

Sponsorship & Participation

We welcome sponsorships from businesses and individuals who wish to support Bengali cultural arts in Houston. Performers and dance groups interested in participating are encouraged to contact us early.
